New city-centre home

In 2017, the John Hansard Gallery relocates to Studio 144, a purpose built, city-centre arts complex in Southampton along with Nuffield and film organisation City Eye.

Sculpture Collection

The University’s campuses are home to a collection of permanent sculptures by leading international artists including Barbara Hepworth and Conrad Shawcross.

Exhibitions and arts groups

The Winchester Gallery, Winchester School of Art’s dedicated gallery for visual art presents a year-long programme of exhibitions and events. Alongside this, there are a number of visual art student groups including life drawing and knitting at WSA, supported by the Students’ Union (SUSU).

A renowned national collection

Southampton City Art Gallery is internationally renowned for its permanent collection that features around 5,300 works.

University’s Special Collections and exhibitions

The University of Southampton’s Special Collections team present an exhibition programme drawn from the archives in the Special Collections Gallery and contemporary creative practice from the University and the wider region in the Level 4 Gallery, in the Hartley Library Building, Highfield Campus.
